About the Print Room

The Ashmolean's Western Art Print Room is home to a magnificent collection of works on paper that stretch from the 15th century to the present day.

In all, the collection totals 30,000 drawings and 300,000 prints that include one-of-a-kind works by artists as diverse as Michelangelo, Rubens, Goya, Ruskin, Degas, and Hockney.

Accessible to everyone

The Print Room prides itself on being the most accessible resource of its kind in the world.

Its knowledgeable staff are available from Tuesday to Friday and two Saturdays a month to welcome visitors who can request to see a treasure from the collections.

Care and preservation

When they are not helping visitors, the Print Room staff are engaged in day-to-day preservation and documentation of the extremely delicate works in their care to safeguard them for future generations.

We need your help

With your help, the Print Room can continue its diligent work of preserving, researching, and digitising its extraordinary collections so they can be shared with visitors and audiences across the world, for many more years to come.

Alongside the Museum's successes, the Ashmolean has faced challenges. The Museum has been hit hard by the rising cost of living, with our utility costs spiralling.

Now more than ever we depend on your support to keep our lights on and our blue doors freely open to the public.
