With Susan Stockwell, established international artist working across sculpture, installation and film
Susan Stockwell’s striking ‘Money Dress’ sculpture is one of the highlights of our major new exhibition, ‘Money Talks: Art, Society & Power.’ This, and other artworks in her ‘Money Works’ series, demonstrate currency being used creatively in novel and intriguing ways.
In this talk, Susan will share the inspirations behind her money-related artwork and how she approaches transforming used currency and other materials into compelling, subversive and thought-provoking artworks. She will also reflect on the close links between trade, currency, mapping and personal and social histories as well as the art world’s relationship with money, power and wealth.
Susan is best known for her site-specific installations and dress sculptures that have been exhibited widely including at the likes of TATE Modern, The Royal Geographical Society and the Victoria and Albert Museum. She has also taught extensively and taken part in residencies and projects in Europe, America, Australia and Asia.
The talk will be recorded. Following the event, a copy will be available on request for the ticket holder's personal use only. Access to view will expire after seven days.

About the Members' Insights Series
The Insights series of online talks offers Ashmolean Members an intimate look behind the scenes of the Museum's collections. Each talk is led by one of our curators, or Museum experts, and explores some of the more unusual, little-known Ashmolean treasures and special displays, as well as research projects and conservation work.
At the end of each talk there will be a Q&A session for attendees to question and exchange views with our experts.
